News: 20/10 Anniversary Ride and Open House Weekend. June 28th, 2013

Loretta, Dave, Karin and I have just finished the majority of planning for our big weekend this September. Please see below for details.

20/10 Anniversary Weekend
September 13-15, 2013

What

Strong Frames and Kirk Frameworks are celebrating their 20th and 10th anniversaries respectively.  We will be hosting a ride weekend along with hosted BBQ’s at each of our shops the weekend of September 13-15.

Where

Bozeman MT is located in the SW portion of Montana 90 miles north of Yellowstone National Park. Bozeman is home to Montana State University, on I-90 with a population of just under 40,000. We sit in the Gallatin Valley with 4 major rivers at just under 5000 feet surrounded by five mountain ranges. Bozeman has experienced a boom since 1990 almost doubling in size.  Bozeman attracts outdoors enthusiasts pursing and active lifestyle and the simple pleasures of small town life and a close knit community.  Some of the more popular activities Bozeman has to offer are skiing/snowboarding, MTB and road cycling, fishing, rock climbing, kayaking, hiking and camping, snowmobile and XC motorcycling, bird and big game hunting and the list goes on.

Schedule

Friday 9/13/2013. We expect most will be just getting to town so we’ll meet at 4:00 in Lindley Park for a short evening ride about an hour and a half, flat, talking pace. Following the ride, at 7:00, will be a non-hosted gathering at http://www.montanaaleworks.com/ .

Saturday 9/14/2013.

AM, Ride

We will be meeting at 12:00 in Lindley Park. We’ll be riding the Church Hill/Dry Creek loop which is roughly a 60 mile rolling loop.

PM, BBQ

On Saturday evening Loretta and Carl Strong will be hosting Strong Frames 20th Anniversary BBQ at 619 S. Willson Ave. their home/shop in the center of town. Locally sourced food and non-alcoholic beverages will be provided. Veggie and gluten free items will be available as well as low fat options and good ol’ red meat. Please bring your own beer or wine. We also ask that if possible you ride your bike to ease pressure on parking. We have a fenced yard that will provide safe parking for your bikes.

Also, in order to plan for food, we ask that you RSVP before 9/1/2013 via email to Loretta at lorettam@strongframes.com.  We will be confirming all RSVP’s via email 9/1/2013.

Sunday 9/15/2013

AM, Ride

We will be meeting at 12:00 in Lindley Park. Sunday’s ride will be Jackson Creek to Kelly Canyon. The ride will feature a lot more climbing than Saturday, providing stunning scenery and some of the most beautiful vistas.

PM, BBQ

On the evening of Sunday the 15th Dave and Karin Kirk of Kirk Frameworks will host an open house and dinner BBQ at their home and shop at 329 Little Wolf Rd on the north side of Bozeman. Our home is about 10 minutes from downtown Bozeman. Since we are out of town proper one will want to plan on driving or having a bike with lights in order to get back into town after dark safely. Car-pooling from the hotel in town is encouraged. We should have plenty of room for parking either bikes or cars. We ask that you bring your own beer or wine and that you kindly leave your dogs at home. A wide variety or food options will be available so everyone should be able to find something to enjoy. So that we can best plan we would appreciate your RSVP by 9/1/13, by email, to info@kirkframeworks.com. We will confirm your RSVP on 9/2/13.

Where to Stay

For a local experience we recommend the Western Heritage Inn Downtown. The Western Heritage Inn is a small, clean locally owned Hotel. You can visit their site here: http://www.westernheritageinn.com/. If you mention this event, they are offering a 5% discount, but please book soon, because they will sell out. The Western Heritage Inn is just a couple blocks from our ride meeting area at Lindley Park and on Main Street within walking distance to our historic downtown where you will find great shopping and many places to eat or have a drink.

Another great option is http://www.vrbo.com/vacation-rentals/usa/montana/yellowstone/bozeman. Bozeman, being a recreational destination has created a lot of opportunity for local home owners to make some extra money renting their homes and carriage houses and there are quite a few to choose from.

There are also a lot of well-known national chain hotels on the newer west side of town that can easily be found with a quick search.

Advanced bike shipping

If you will be traveling in from afar and would rather not carry your bike with you please feel free to ship your bikes to Bozeman ahead of time. We will be happy to store your bikes and boxes here to await your arrival and will provide a workstand and tools to assemble and then dissemble and repack the bikes for the trip home. Please make your own shipping arrangements both to and from Bozeman. For more details contact either Strong Frames or Kirk Frameworks directly.

Local bike shops

Neither Strong Frames nor Kirk Frameworks are fully stocked bike shops but if you need parts or repairs Bozeman has no shortage of shops that can help you. Below is a list of area shops that come highly recommended.

Weather

The typical weather for Bozeman in mid -September is ideal for riding and outdoor activities with the average high temperature being 74°, the average low being 42° and a mean temp of 58°. The elevation of Bozeman is just less than 5000’ and the air is very dry and comfortable. Rain is of course possible at any time but this is generally a very dry and stable time of year with few rainy days or storms.

Additional Information

We understand that not everyone in your traveling party might want to ride or talk about bikes 100% of the time so we have gathered a bit of info below about some of our favorite places to visit and eat while in Southwest Montana.
