FreeHub Mag Printed Annual

May 17th, 2010

If you like MTB’s you’ll love FreeHub Mag. It’s an online magazine www.freehubmag.com but better yet they produce a printed annual compilation of the years online articles. Talk about great pictures and articles. From small towns with great riding to riders and even framebuilders like myself. It’s perfect bound very classy publication that’s about 210 pages. It’s more spendy at than a normal mag at $10.95 but it’s worth it, it’s almost a coffee table book. Here is a link to their article on Strong Frames. http://freehubmag.com/2010/05/strong-racing-frames-industry-hands/ There is also another great article on Bozeman here http://freehubmag.com/2010/05/bozeman-montana-friendly-fronts/ I know this sounds just like an add and it sort of is. The publisher Brandon lived in Bozeman for a while, he’s a great guy and I want him to do well. He’s also producing an outstanding product.

MTB Raffle

May 12th, 2010

Recently, a good a friend and riding partner had his daughter born at 23 weeks (1 pound 6 ounces). Our hospital in Bozeman could not deliver the baby early so they were transferred out of state to Sioux Falls South Dakota. You can see Shelby and learn more about her story here http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/shelbyullom. Some friends in town got together to have an auction for the expenses incurred with the unexpected delivery. We donated a Steel Mountain Bike frame that is designed for a 6’ to 6. 2” rider. The geometry is designed for cross-country comfort riding. The raffle tickets are for sale for $10 apiece. We’ll submit one ticket for every $10 dollars you pay. Deadline is 5pm Monday May 24th.

Video of the week

May 12th, 2010

For those out there that like motorbikes, here is a really cool Super Motard video. It seems that the unique riding style that’s emerging from Super Motard (and showing up more in road racing) has really come a long way in the last couple years. It’ s tons of fun to watch because it’s so easy to see. Notice at turn-in the way they trail (back in) the rear brake and really rotate the bike. The key is that when you transfer from the brake to the throttle you have to be really quick, smooth and precise or you upset the suspension and stand the bike up which is ugly and ruins your drive out of the turn at best and could actually high side you at worst. Also notice in the middle of the turn when they start to exit how they turn the front wheel over. Pretty cool stuff.

“Smoked Out”

May 10th, 2010

Richard Sachs started a fun new feature on www.velocipedesalon.com. It’s called “Smoked Out” and they are question answer sessions with custom builders. You can see a couple articles on the features here:

and here:

Today I’m the subject and I think it’s going to be fun. I’m interested in seeing what people have to ask. You can see my thread here:

Adam’s Tourer

May 7th, 2010

Here is a frame I’m building for returning customer Adam of ME. It’s a 26″ MTB (sort of) touring/commuting frame that is setup for drop bars. It will run 1.75″ most of the time with fenders but can accept 2.25″ without fenders. It has couplers and a custom fork. I’ve also used a Paragon dropout (at Adams request) that has a disc mount between the seatstay and chainstay keeping the disc caliper out of the way of the rack and fender stays.
