Hersh’s Ti 29er SS

April 13th, 2010

Here is a titanium 29er single speed for Hersh. It will be painted and assembled here and it has a really nice build sheet. I’ll post the whole thing when I’m done. It’s going to be really slick.

Gil’s tall Custom Blend Steel

April 7th, 2010

This is Gil’s steel road fame. Gil has very long arms and legs and a short torso. He is the classic example of a person who will struggle with a rack bike no matter what he does. All his individual specification are easy to accommodate and we don’t have to make any compromises in frame design to build for him, it’s just that he’s unique enough that nothing in a shop will even come close.

Video of the week

April 6th, 2010

I’ve received a lot of video suggestions from people since I’ve been doing this video of the week. Thanks to everyone that has sent one and please feel free to do so or continue doing so. I can’t say they’ll all be posted but it’s fun to see them none the less. If you’ve sent a video that I haven’t posted, more than likely I will but I have a big backlog and it may take a while for me to get to it.

This weeks video sent by Nick L. is of a 5 axis machine showing it’s stuff. The most amazing thing to me is the level of detail and final finish the machine produces. Check it out.

Billing Gazette and TIG Closeups

April 5th, 2010

The Billings Gazette did a really nice article on Strong Frames yesterday. It can be seen here. It is a very accurate and well written article.

Also below is a gallery with Randy’s road frame and fork. As you can see it’s quite large. It is also built around long reach caliper brakes, 32mm tire clearance and has rack and fender mounts as well as lowrider mounts on the fork. I also spent a little extra time taking pictures of the welding on this frame because there seems to be a lot of interest and talk about welding and welding techniques out there these days.

For those that are interested, when welding steel I use a pulser, I may or may not when welding titanium and I never do when welding aluminum. For the welders and Framebuilders out there the welds pictured here were done with a very “slow hard” pulser setting of 2.5 per second with 10 background, 15 on and 100%.  I also run my machine at 100% because I like the headroom and prefer to use my foot for control over my panel.
