Carl, when you switch from chromo to titanium, hows does that effect your welding setup\parameters and technique?

Another Strong in San Diego, my secret is out!
Now besides Mr. Horner, the bitchin’ camero will have some serious competition on Mt. Palomar assaults… Great choice Brett, you’ll never be disappointed.

  3. Carl says:

I don’t change much. The changes I do make are that I double pass, back purge and use a longer post purge, that’s about all. My technique is the same.

  4. Brett says:

Carl, I had some apprehension this weekend thinking about those necessary stay changes but they turned out beautiful. Thanks for the pics!

  5. Brett says:

Mike, I’m a long time MTBer only recently coming over to road so Palomar assaults will have to wait. But as you say, I’m sure disappointment is out of the question.

  9. steven says:

    hi carl,
how much cfh are you using to purge the frame, and how long do you wait between the two passes?

  10. Carl says:

Hi Steven, I use on average about 15cfm. I weld the entire front triangle and then I go back and do the second pass. Then I weld the entire rear and go back and do the second pass. If you don’t let the welds cool before you do the second pass they will build up too much heat and are more likely to contaminate.
