Eric W’s frame at paint

January 29th, 2010

A while back I posted some pictures of Eric’s frame during the build along with the paint scheme he’s designed. Spectrum has since posted the work on their site and I thought I’d post a link here so anyone interested could see the process. Below is the design and here is a link to the work:

More pics of Jim G’s frame

January 28th, 2010

Here are some more images of Jim G’s frame. It’s coming along very nicely and will be sent to paint this afternoon.

Bikeasaurus, the combo of tubes used in this frame are a very common choice for me, although they will vary in diameter and wall thickness depending on the customer. Other changes I make are chainstay shape and wall thickness and seatstay diameter. This bike represents a medium ride stiffness for a rider between around 160 to 190 pounds.

Here you go Jim!

I got pretty sick Monday night and didn’t get any sleep so I didn’t work much yesterday. I feel great today and will have it all welded out and pretty much done by the end of the day. I’ll post more images of the frame further along tomorrow.

Frame set it a combination of True Temper Plat, Columbus Life and Nivacrome. It’s a road frame in the 57ish range with couplers.

Things to say

January 26th, 2010

I think I’ve been running out of things to say. I may have to scale back a bit on the blog in order to maintain the appearance that I might have something interesting to say every now and then. I’ve been blogging for about a year now and have tried to post nearly every work day. Here are a couple things I’ve learned. First, it’s easy to post customers bikes in progress and I know they love to see them. I also know that perspective customers like to see what kind of work is coming out of my shop. It was suggested to me the other day that I add more detail about each bike such as size, tubes, geometry etc. and I think that is a great idea and will start doing so. Another thing I’ve learned is that from time to time I get onĀ  a little bit of a rant and those are the posts that seem to get the most comments. I like comments and I like to rant but unfortunately I only have so many things to rant about so I’m afraid pretty soon I’ll start sounding like a broken record. That takes me to the last thing I’ve noticed, there is only so much I feel inspired to write about on a daily basis. With that being said I will probably try to back off a little on the quantity of post’s and increase the quality. I still expect to post 2-3 times a week but the 4-5 posts a week is a little hard to keep up with. Are there things you’d like me to write about or see? If so let me know. The gallery is random images pulled from posts over the last year.

New Employee

January 22nd, 2010

So we just filled a position in our shipping department. Because we ‘re sending very expensive bikes all over the world we take packaging very seriously. Any of you that have purchased a frame or bike from us know that it takes about a half a day to get them unwrapped. So when we had a chance to get the star employee from UPS we jumped on it. Her name is Frankie and she gets the job done. We’ll have to spend a little time retraining her because USP doesn’t have quite as high a standard as we do but I don’t think it will take long, she’s almost there. Here is some video of her unpacking frames that are coming back from paint.
