I’ve built about 5 titanium frames in a row and now I have a hand-full of steel to do. I don’t prefer one over the other but am looking forward to working with steel for a while. The variety is nice. I’m starting a couple Extralites this week. One for a customer out east and the other to test some process concepts and try a new frame decal design.
Below are pictures of Bob G’s titanium frame. It’s done and going off to paint.
- Fitting up tubes
- Welding front
- Aligning front triangle
- Setting up chainstays
- Setting up seatstays
- Welding on small parts
- Aligning rear
- Done
- Ready for final machining

Thanks, Carl. I’m not a weight weenie, but roughly how much will it …..
It weighs three pounds on the dot.
Are you changing your logo design permanently from now on or is this an option?
If it works out and people want it, I’ll offer it as an option.
just gotta tell you, your precision looks amazing! Happened across your site looking to see who was custom fabbing out there.
My steel frame looks like it grew together. If you ever have a chance to see Carl’s tig welds up close you won’t believe them. Flat out, the best in the business.
What Chad said– Carl’s welds are like few you will ever see. I took my Ti frame to a friends machine/ welding fabrication shop and his chin dropped at how precise the welds were. Beyond how great the welds are, the ride is spot on. My Strong bikes are laser straight going down the road and I am 100% confident in my turns. They track perfect.
