More Current Work

April 23rd, 2009

So I finished Patrick’s frame and it will go out today. There are a couple shots of it before it went into the media blaster to be finished.  I also started Trevor G’s frame yesterday and will work on it for the rest of the week. Trevor’s frame will be built with an Edge 2.0 and Sram Red, very nice.

Moving slowly

April 22nd, 2009

I haven’t posted for the last couple days because I’ve been super tired and moving very slow. I went out and hammered myself this weekend and am having a tough time recovering. Loretta has also been out of town and it’s all I can do to make sure the place stays someone organized.  Thankfully she’s back today and I can start focusing on building again.

I finished up Tim W’s Ti and Carbon road frame so it’s off to paint. It’s getting an Edge fork painted to match and a Record 11 build kit. I’ve also started a frame for another returning customer, Patrick R. Patrick’s frame should be done and ready to ship tomorrow. It’s a titanium road frame.

Sorry about the pictures, the weather here has been very nice and the sun coming in the glass overhead makes it very hard to the light right.

Ti and Carbon

April 17th, 2009

So here is a frame I’m building for a customer that is primarily titanium but we’ve put in a carbon seatube and seatstays. These are tough to build for a few reasons. One is that you essentially have to build it twice. You have to make the frame and connector tubes as thought it’s whole and then you have to miter and fit the carbon tubes and bond them in. Another challenge is alignment. When you are building a frame that  is missing tubes you don’t have the structure you typically depend on to maintain alignment. The last big challenge is bond line clearance. The space between the metal and the cabon in which the epoxy is used has to be exactly right to assure a strong bond. I’ve been mixing carbon into welded frames for about 10 years so I have lot’s of little tricks that keep me on track.

Joe S. from CA

April 15th, 2009

Well I finished BJ’s frame, it really came out great. It goes off to paint and I’m currently working on Joe S’s frame. It’s a titanium road frame that will be half painted with a bare rear and black transition bands. Should look very classy. We’ll be building this one up with Shimano Ultegra SL and a True Temper Alpha Q GS10 fork.

Pilot from AK

April 14th, 2009

So here is a frame for a Customer from AK, BJ.  He’s a helicopter pilot in the Coast Guard. He’ll actually be coming to Bozeman to pick the frame up and we’ll be able to ride together . that’s pretty cool because I rarely got to meet my customers face to face. About 99% of the frames I sell, I sell over the phone and out of state.

This frame is a classic “Stage Race” style road frame made with my favorite “Custom Blend” of True Temper OX Platinum and Columbus Life tuned to his weight, frame size and riding preferences. He’s also had the seatstays “Swooped” as I call it which gives the frame a nice look. The frame is getting a super cool paint job that you’ll get to see when I post it upon it’s return from Spectrum. We’ll be building it up with Shimano Ultegra SL and an Edge Composites 2.0 fork. Very nice!

I also inluded another pic of his other ride becaue I thought it was cool. I hope you don’t mind BJ.

Anyone watch Ax Men? They have a pretty cool profile on Helicopter loggers not far from  here. The pilot got caught out in some fog on a recent episode and barely made it back to his landing site. Pretty nerve racking.
