Aluminum

March 18th, 2009

Yesterday I finished Geoff S’s Easton Elite 7005 road frame. It weighs a scant 2.4 pounds. Being 7005 series aluminum it will need to be artificially aged to bring it back up to full strength after welding. That means putting it in a low oxygen oven for six hours at 200F degrees followed by four hours at 320F. I send the frame to a place in Oakland called Thermofusion who does single units unlike most other heat-treating operations. Once the frame returns I’ll do all the final machining and send it off to Spectrum for powdercoating.

eBay Auction

March 17th, 2009

Short post today, I’ve got several eBay auction going right now. I post the “Best TIG Frame” award winner as well as a very lightly used and freshly repainted 29er singlespeed with fork. I’ve also posted a bunch of random parts. Some Zipp cranks, Zero Gravity brakes and several seatposts and stems. My eBay user name is strongframes so I assume if you  search by that you ‘ll find all the auctions. Thanks!

This week

March 16th, 2009

Well, I finished Mark H’s frame this weekend and it will go to paint today. It’s going to be a classic candy red, with white lugs and Charcol lug lines. I’m looking forward to seeing it when it returns. Today I’ll be working on Geoff S’s aluminum road frame and should be done with it late tomorrow. It will go off to be aged (heat treat for 7005). Next on the list is Chirs H’s frame. Chris is getting a steel “All-Rounder” frame and fork that will be setup for either disc brakes or Paul Racing center mounts. It’s his third frame so I guess I’m doing something right. Below are pictures of Mark H’s frame and Geoff B’s.

Working Weekend

March 14th, 2009

Good thing I love my job. I’ve got a couple more projects to finish before I feel like I’m back on track so I’m in this weekend. Working weekends is nice because I don’t answer the phone and I don’t feel guilty about it.

I’m finishing Mark H’s Rando frameset and it is coming out great. I’ll put all the braze-on’s on and do the machining, final align and finish and it goes to paint Monday. Then it’s on to Geoff B of Bermuda’s frame. It’s an aluminum road frame so once I build it I’ll send it to Oakland to be aged. I think by the middle of next week I’ll be right where I’m suppose to be and I can start posting daily again. Below are images of Marks frame.

Super Busy

March 12th, 2009

So in returning from the show I’ve had a lot going on and have been more busy than I anticipated. I’ve had a ton of calls and visits, a new magazine spent a couple days here shooting pictures for an article, we’ve been unpacking frames and displays from the show as well as shipping frames to customers and I’ve got two more appointments today. I’ve also been talking with customers and building a frame. It may be another day or two before I dig out. For those of you who have a frame on order with me and are currently working on frame design I apologize. I’ll be working on designs tomorrow morning and should be back on schedule so call when you can. And BJ (if you’re out there) sorry I missed your call I’ll look forward to hearing from you early next week. Below are a couple pictures or Mark H’s lugged Randonneur frame in the works.
